BIOGRAPHY

I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. Since being put into dance when I was three I have trained in all different art forms such as jazz, ballet, contemporary, lyrical, Broadway, modern as well as dance composition. My home dance studio, Dublin Dance Center and Gymnastics, slowly shaped me into the independent dancer I am today. Under the instruction of Martine Clark, Ryan Orders, Amanda McCoy, Erika Alloway, Angela Carter and the rest of the staff, I found my passion for performing. I started out as a bunhead and was convinced that my future was within the realm of ballet. After having a falling out with dance as a whole in eighth grade, I realized that I was missing something when it came to my dancing, my individuality. I came back to dance as a freshman better than ever, not in ballet, but in modern and contemporary. Switching my focus to these styles was the best thing for me when finding my path. When I furthered my exploration with these styles, it was easier to identify with myself and gave me more room for becoming my own dancer. I started to see a change with myself outside of dance as well; I was more confident and willing to try new things. This led me to join the theater, tryout for the cheerleading squad, and further my involvement at my high school and community. My confidence grew more as high school went on and my involvement in these areas thrived. I started to get leads and was given the position of the dance captain for musicals, the varsity cheer captain, and the head of one of the volunteer groups I was part of. Even though other areas of my life were improving, dance still stayed as my top focus and I kept blaming dance for the reason why I got involved with the other aspects of my life. I felt a strong want to continue my passion as I took the next step in my life and started my undergraduate career.

The Ohio State University was my dream dance school since I changed my dance style focus my freshman year of high school. By way of Ohio State, I have so far discovered my love for the little movements that draw focus from the big movements. My goal is to focus on the performance aspect of dance and how the science behind movement connects to the way we present ourselves on a stage. After I graduate I hope to perform in a company, but bring a scientific knowledge to my performance quality.
